NC Pre-K provides high-quality educational experiences to enhance school readiness for eligible children aged 4.

Who is eligible?

NC Pre-K is available for children who will be age 4 on or before August 31st of the program year and whose parent(s) meet the income limits. There are some exceptions to the strict income limits for children who have documented risk factors in specific categories, such as developmental disabilities, Limited English Proficiency, educational needs, or chronic health conditions. Children of certain military families are eligible regardless of income. CLICK HERE to learn more.

How can I apply?

The NC Pre-K Program is administered at the county or regional level by Local Education Agencies, Smart Start Agencies, or Community Action Agencies.

Visit the Contact Directory to find your local NC Pre-K provider. Reach out to your local provider.

Due to limited government funding, there are not enough spaces for all eligible children. If there is not a space for you and your child at this time, ask the program to put your family on the waiting list.
