Meals On Wheels is a nonprofit organization that provides nutritional meals to seniors, people with disabilities, and other eligible community members. Volunteers deliver lunches to home bound clients each weekday.
Who is eligible?
You may be eligible if you are home bound due to age, disability, or illness. People of various ages and income levels may be eligible for meals depending on the program and area served, though programs generally serve adults 60 and over.
How can I apply?
Find your local Meals On Wheels and submit an application for service. A staff member will contact you once they have reviewed your application. Some programs may require a referral from a doctor or social worker.
What is included in a Meals On Wheel meal?
Each meal includes the following:
- One serving of lean protein (beef, chicken, pork)
- Two servings of complex carbohydrates (usually 1 bread and 1 starch)
- Two servings of either a fruit or a vegetable
- Eight ounces of milk
Nutritionally, each meal contains:
- At least 700 calories
- Less than 1,300 mg of sodium
- Less than 30% of its calories from fat
Does Meals On Wheels cost anything?
Donor funded meals are free for clients, but there may be a waiting list. If you would like to avoid the wait, you can contribute $5 per meal or $3.50 for SNAP recipients.
