Do not go to a disaster area to volunteer. Until a disaster area has been declared safe to enter and volunteer needs are identified, stay home and donate instead. Volunteers should only come once they have been given an assignment with an established organization that has asked for assistance.

North Carolina residents looking for volunteer opportunities in their counties can fill out this Volunteer Search Google Form to indicate skillsets, availability, and county they can volunteer in. Then a local United Way will contact them with a volunteer opportunity.
Hands On Asheville- Buncombe is a site with volunteer opportunities posted in Buncombe County that folks can sign up for.
The devastation in NC after Helene will take years to clean up but we can be a part of helping families recover in the early weeks following disaster. They will work with teams from either Baptist on Mission or Samaritans purse helping with a variety of tasks from clean-up to serving meals. Because this is a developing situation details are still forthcoming. Please note, accommodations may be sparse, there will be costs associated with lodging and food. All of this will be communicated in a timely manner.
