Shelter Information

Emergency shelter open at Edneyville Elementary School at 2875 Pace Road

Note for shelter residents:

Bring ID, medications, items like glasses or diapers, clothing for 3-7 days, pillows, toiletries, chargers for cell phones, and books, games, or cards. Bring sheets, cots, and air mattresses if available. Alcohol, illegal substances, and weapons are not permitted.

If you plan to bring a pet to the shelter, please ensure you have the following: All pets MUST be crated All pets MUST have a collar/leash with proper tags (rabies vaccination required by NC law) Food and water bowls Food/treats Cleaning items (litter, bags, etc.)

There are nurses in most shelters that will be able to help people in the shelter with basic medical needs.

For families concerned about finding shelter for people with autism who may need calming rooms, call the Red Cross disability advisor at 720-618-3513. For people with more advanced medical needs who are unable to be in a regular shelter – who need to be in a medical shelter – call their local Emergency Management Office.

HENDERSON COUNTY NEWS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30
We have some good news to share with County residents!

*Henderson County is mobilizing six Resource Hub locations for water distribution and other supplies as they become available.
Distribution will start at noon today, Monday, September 30th.
The locations are

  1. Etowah Elementary
  2. Rugby Middle
  3. East Henderson High
  4. North Henderson High
  5. Mills River Town Hall
  6. Fletcher Town Hall

Community Food Pantry

The Community Food Pantry by the General Store in Edneyville on highway 64 will open Monday 9/30/24 at 12:00 to pass out meat, bread, desserts, eggs and dairy until it’s gone. Please one load per family. We’ll have a skeleton crew so please be patient. Staff will pass out to you from the doorway.

Interfaith Assistance Ministries

IAM  (Interfaith Assistance Ministries) will be offering Drive-Thru distribution of food boxes from 2-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Sept 30 – Oct 4,  as long as food supplies last. Visit us at 310 Freeman Street off Four Seasons Blvd.

IAM will be closed for ALL OTHER regular services until further notice pending restoration of electrical and water service at our offices.

IAM will be accepting donations of food, water, and hygiene supplies from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this week. Please, no donations of clothing items at this time. Thank you for your support during this very difficult time for our neighbors.

Due to adverse road conditions, IAM will NOT be making our regular HOP deliveries this week. We will reach out to our HOP recipients as we have more information about when we will be able to resume deliveries. Thank you for your understanding.

The Salvation Army

HENDERSON COUNTY UPDATE SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6, 6:00 PM

Henderson County remains in a State of Emergency and the curfew has been amended to 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

There are changes to Henderson County’s Resource Hub schedule this week. Henderson County will open two Resource Hub locations Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for water distribution and other supplies. The Resource Hub locations are:

  • Etowah Elementary, 320 Etowah School Road Etowah, NC 28729
  • Mills River Town Hall, 124 Town Center Drive. Mills River, NC 28759

Each family unit will be provided supplies for one day’s meal and water as it is available. Individuals are asked to enter the drive-through Resource Hubs and remain in their cars unless instructed otherwise by volunteers, to ensure an efficient process.

For the Resource Hubs to function smoothly, efficiently and safely. We ask for the public’s patience while waiting for their supplies.

In addition, two local churches will provide community distribution lines this week:

  • Ebeneezer Baptist Church, 2557 Chimney Rock Rd, Hendersonville, NC 28792, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • First Baptist Church, Hendersonville 312 5th Ave West. Hendersonville, NC, 28739, Noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Debris Tech is hiring Hurricane Debris Collection Monitors to support recovery efforts in Henderson County. With immediate work available, applicants can earn $1,000 or more per week based on full-time hours.

These positions offer hourly pay, overtime eligibility and on-the-job training, with no prior experience required. Hurricane Debris Collection Monitors will be responsible for ensuring that eligible debris is properly collected and loaded, as well as maintaining safety standards and reporting any issues during removal operations.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and a cell phone
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods
  • Flexible schedule, with availability for shifts up to 12 hours per day, seven days a week
