December is filled with exciting Holidays that are typically spent gathering with family and friends. However, COVID-19 is causing all North Carolinians to reimagine how to celebrate in a safe and responsible way.
How can families safely gather for winter Holidays?
Any scenario in which many people gather poses a risk for COVID-19 transmission. NCDHHS recommends avoiding Holiday travel and limiting physical contact with people who do not live with you. If you do choose to gather with people who live outside your household, you can follow these important steps to keep everyone safe.

How can I stay safe while travelling?
If you are planning to travel or gather it is recommended to have a screening COVID-19 test 3-4 days before. Remember, though, that a negative test is not a free pass, it is only a measure of your COVID-19 status at that point in time. Everyone is still expected to wear a mask, socially distance, and wash their hands often (the 3Ws). People who have been recently diagnosed with COVID-19, have symptoms, or have been around a person with COVID-19 should not host, travel, or participate in any gatherings until they complete their isolation or quarantine period.
Is there any help with Holiday meals or gifts?
This year, as in previous years, there are community organizations that are providing meals or gifts. Keep in mind that organizations may have changed their distribution process and hours of operation.
This holiday season is going to be different, but there are still resources and help available. And if you are able there are also organizations that are looking for donations or volunteers during this time. Search “volunteer” or “donations” in the search bar on our home page or follow our social media as we will share opportunities that may be available.
